Hello, ist there a reason why AkelPad (at least x64) comes with AkelUpdater 6.5, but on the Plugins Website Page, one can download version 6.8?
Is there any documentation of what happened to the updater in version 6.6/6.7/6.8? Why is it not included in the main package?

There was only AkelUpdater 6.5 (May 17, 2016) on July 18, 2016 (date of Release AkelPad 4.9.8).
AkelUpdater 6.6 / 6.7 / 6.8 (2018-10-30 -- 2018-12-12) with some corrections for x64 updating.
The only documentation for these versions is the CodeSvn ([r4398]-[r4383])

Is there a reasons why AkelPad 4.9.8 x64 does not come with AkelUpdater 6.8 (but with 6.5)?
Should users of x64 4.9.8 therefore replace the updater with the newest version, generally speaking?

Yes.
The AkelUpdater was updated a few times after AkelPad 4.9.8 had been released. That is why there is a newer AkelUpdater than the one included in AkelPad 4.9.8.

Added: support for NSIS 3.x and compiled with it. Added: support for nscurl plugin (https://github.com/negrutiu/nsis-nscurl),
which allows AkelUpdater to work on Windows XP, and can also help if there are other connection problems.
To use the plugin, put the file "NScurl.zip\Plugins\x86-ansi\NScurl.dll" in the directory with AkelUpdater.exe Fixed: blurriness when using Windows scaling.
