The text file in GB2312, filesize > 3MB.
It is important to make speed tests with caret at the end of file (open file first time, set caret to the end of file, exit and open file again). "Remember caret position" should be turned on.
AkelPad 3.x can "loads" the file faster, but actually it load only some part of text and other part is loaded in background (only when word wrap mode is off). You can make sure in this by setting the caret at the end of a file and reopen it.

A line of 10 chars, only the first 5 will be displayed.

Do you mean that, if guest set the display font to Chinese font, when he will see all 10 chars. Or do you mean, if I set the display font to Chinese font, when I will see only 5 chars?
I mean that if guest set the display font to Chinese font so that he will see all 10 chars.
Thanks! In fact set font to any variable width font can fixed the display.
The problem is still there. It occur when using a fixed width font.
It is a little bit annoying when reading source code and cjk text, I have to switch between fixed and variable fonts.

Most fixed fonts have problem, eg. Terminal, fixedsys, consolas, courier new, Bitstream Vera Sans Mono, 細明體, MS Gothic
But a few fixed fonts can display properly, eg. Nu Sans Mono Demo, PhaisarnFixed

Can you send on email an example file, that contain CJK characters, for testing?
Update:
Does Windows Notepad has the same problem?
